Bike to Work Day

Colorado Bike to Work Day is coming up on Wednesday, June 26. Are you ready to ride? Lakewood will be hosting three breakfast stations this year at Addenbrooke Park, Morse Park and The Stone House, as well as co-hosting an afternoon station in the Belmar Plaza. We would love to see you there! Head over to the official Bike to Work Day website to find a station near you and register to ride—whether you’re commuting to work or just riding to join in on the fun!

The city’s Bicycle Plan is currently being updated, and we need your input! The update began in April 2024 and is expected to be completed in spring of 2025. Now through June 30 you are invited to share your thoughts on Lakewood’s bicycle network by taking an online survey, pinning your ideas on an interactive web map, and chatting with Lakewood’s active transportation coordinator at any of three community events. Visit the project page on Lakewood Together to access online engagement tools and find more information on the goals of the Plan update and upcoming opportunities to be involved.

Bike Valet Parking at Earth Day CelebrationBike racks full of bikes with a bike valet sign in front of the racks

Did you know that every year there is free bike valet parking at Lakewood’s Earth Day Celebration? If you’re planning on coming to the celebration at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park on Saturday, April 27, opt for a more sustainable mode of transportation and ride your bike—without having to worry about leaving it unattended while you enjoy the event! Bikes of all shapes and sizes are accepted. Bike valet parking is also provided at Cider Days in October.

Separated Bike Lanes are coming to LakewoodCar on a street driving next to a bike lane

You may have heard that Lakewood is officially installing the city’s first separated bike lanes on South Garrison Street between Jewell and Mississippi avenues. The lanes were initially striped in July 2023, and are estimated to be completed in summer 2024 with the installation of plastic curbing and posts. Two more separated bike lanes—on Denver West Parkway and in small sections of Harlan Street near Alameda Ave—are also planned for construction in 2024. These lanes are funded by a budget line item specifically set aside for separated bike lanes, approved by City Council for the 2024 Annual Budget in October 2023.

If you’d like to learn more about separated bike lanes or ask Lakewood transportation staff a question about the project, please visit the official project page on Lakewood Together.

Future bicycle-related events and opportunities for community engagement will be posted on this page. Lakewood Together is also a great resource for finding updates and giving feedback on current projects happening in Public Works, Parks and more.
