Car Theft Prevention
Motor vehicle theft has been a growing problem in the State of Colorado and across the US and the Lakewood Police Department is inviting you to take part in a new program targeted at combating this issue. Lakewood PD is taking a proactive approach to auto theft and would like to provide Lakewood residents with the knowledge and tools to help prevent auto theft and ultimately reduce the auto theft ratio in our city.
The Top 10 Most Commonly Stolen Vehicles in the metro area, include:
- Ford F-150
- Hyundai Elantra
- Chevrolet Silverado
- Ford F-250
- Hyundai Sonata
- Kia Sportage
- Ford F-350
- Kia Soul
- GMC Sierra
- Kia Optima
The Lakewood Police Department with a generous grant from the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority would like to provide you with free tools to help prevent auto theft and if your vehicle is stolen, help to recover your vehicle faster! These tools include a small GPS tracking device - Apple Air Tag or a Tile Tracker, a Club to place over your steering wheel and a decal to place on your vehicle window to deter potential auto thieves.

- LOCK your vehicle when it is unattended.
- DO NOT leave keys in your vehicle OR leave your vehicle running and unattended.
- DO NOT leave any valuables inside your vehicle to include weapons, money, tools, etc.
