One-Day Volunteer Projects are a way for groups, schools, and corporations to learn about Lakewood Parks through field-based service-learning. Volunteers work directly with staff and learn specific land management methodologies. This hands-on opportunity is a great way to contribute to local conservation efforts, connect to nature, build community, and make a difference! No experience is necessary, and the tools, PPE, and materials will be provided.

Purpose

One-Day Volunteer Projects are a way for groups, schools, and corporations to learn about Lakewood Parks through field-based service-learning. Volunteers work directly with staff and learn specific land management methodologies. This hands-on opportunity is a great way to contribute to local conservation efforts, connect to nature, build community, and make a difference! No experience is necessary, and the tools, PPE, and materials will be provided.

Schedule

One-day group volunteers must be willing to commit to a specific one-day project in support of the Lakewood parks team.  Opportunities could include trail work, conservation efforts, plantings, park maintenance, etc.

Qualifications

The volunteer must be able to prove the following ability to:

  • Ability to bend, kneel and tolerate sun and heat.
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team.  
  • Work in variable weather.
  • Enter all volunteer hours in the City’s Volgistics and reporting systems.  

Age requirement

There is no minimum age for this committee. Volunteers under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult while performing volunteer service.  

Training

An approximately 1- hour basic park orientation will be required prior to the designated project work.

Work environment

Outdoor – Project opportunities can be available anytime of year.  The changing Colorado weather is a strong factor in scheduling.
