Free Yard and Garden Waste Drop-Off

You asked, we listened: Free yard and garden waste drop-off events coming this Fall

We have heard from residents that more options are needed for yard waste disposal—and we’re excited to announce that in October and November, the City will host free yard and garden waste drop-off events. You can drop off your plant material from your yard and garden cleanup, and it will be composted at a local composting facility.

Things to Know:

• Check back soon to see a list of items that will be accepted at this event. 
• Proof of Lakewood residency may be required.
• All items will need to be emptied into dumpsters. You may bring items in bags, buckets and bins, empty them, and then take your bags, buckets and bins back home with you.
• Our capacity at these events will be limited so we will not accept bags of leaves due to the amount of space leaves take in dumpsters.  We encourage you to process your leaves separately:
  • Use a mulching mower to mulch your leaves into your lawn.
  • Dig your leaves into your garden, they will degrade over the winter and feed the soil.
  • Spread your leaves on the soil in perennial beds or under bushes and shrubs to serve as a protective layer of mulch.

  • If you rake up your leaves, please take them to Lakewood’s third annual free leaf recycling drop-off at the City Greenhouse in November.
