The City of Lakewood’s Community Sustainability, Climate, and Zero Waste division is collaborating with Xcel Energy and CLEAResult to provide free enhanced home energy assessments for qualifying Lakewood homeowners and renters. The program provides free Home Energy Squad Plus visits (a $600 value) performed by a certified technician to help make your home more efficient. In 2024, Home Energy Squad participants saved an average of $124 annually on their utility bills. After your assessment is complete, an energy advisor can help you navigate various Xcel Energy rebate opportunities to maximize savings. Quantities are limited so we encourage Lakewood residents to sign up quickly.

Your free Home Energy Squad Plus visit includes all labor, needed installation, and materials for the following:

  • Air leak analysis with a Blower-Door diagnostic test
  • Infrared imaging and analysis
  • Upgrading lights to LEDs
  • Installation of weatherstripping

  • Who can participate?

    • Must be a City of Lakewood resident and residential customer of Xcel Energy.
    • Live in a detached single-family home or part of a building with four or fewer connected units. Renters can participate with permission from the property owner.
    • Xcel Energy/CLEAResult will verify Lakewood residency and program eligibility.

    Sign up over the phone at 303-446-7910, Option 2, or online with the following steps:

    1. Visit the Home Energy Squad Plus webpage and select “Step 1: Verify Eligibility.” Enter Xcel Account Address and Contact Information.
    2. Enter in Home Details, including approximate square footage.
    3. Schedule your appointment and select “Step 2: Confirm.”
    4. Select “Step 3: Add to Cart.” The order total will show $100.00; you will enter in a code to bring the cost down to $0 on the next screen.
    5. Select “Step 4: Proceed to Checkout” and enter in Discount Code “LAKEWOOD2025” (case sensitive) and select “Apply Discount” to bring the cost down to $0.
    6. Select “Final Step: Place Order.”

    What is a Blower-Door test?

    • A Blower-Door test detects air leakage in your home by temporarily setting up a fan sealed into an exterior doorway to measure airflow. The test allows professionals to identify areas of leakage, such as gaps in walls, windows, and doors.

    What is infrared imaging?

    • Infrared imaging uses a special camera to detect temperature variations in a home and reveals insulation, heat loss, and moisture problems.
