About the event

Each year Lakewood hosts the Earth Day Celebration at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park with music, entertainment, educational exhibits, food, drinks, and family fun. We hope to see you at our Earth Day Celebration: Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Activities

Schedule of Events

Check out the activities happening at the Earth Day Celebration: 

All day:

  • Bike Valet:  Ride your bike to the event and park it for free at our bike valet station.
  • Enjoy live music featuring Pick & Howl and Super Magick
  • Grab a bite to eat from local food trucks.
  • Discover new ways to live sustainably from over 30 vendors, exhibitors, and demonstrators.
  • Take an e-bike for a test ride, provided by Adventure West E-Bikes.
  • "Meet the Fleet":  See some of the City of Lakewood’s new electric fleet vehicles.

11 a.m.-2 p.m. 

  • Historic Tours:  Tour the historic buildings at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park.
  • Learn about, explore and test drive electric vehicles, coordinated by Drive Clean Colorado.

11 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Art station:  Make art happen! Get ready for the Parade of Species by creating animal masks or headbands and enjoy other Earth Day friendly crafts.

11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m.

  • Come to story time at the historic schoolhouse at 11:15 a.m. (provided by Jeffco Public Library) and 2 p.m. (provided by Princess Gardens Worm Farm).

1 p.m.

  • Cornhole Tournament- Show off your skills in our first-ever Lakewood Earth Day Cornhole Tournament, starting at 1 p.m. near art activity station.

1:30 p.m.

  • Dance Performance- Watch the Lakewood Youth Dance Troupe perform in front of the gazebo stage at 1:30 p.m.

3 p.m.

  • Participate in the 4th Annual Parade of Species through the festival. Meet at 2:30 p.m. by the gazebo for photo ops with animal mascots from local schools. Wear your favorite plant, insect, or animal costume, decorate your wagons and strollers, dress up your pets, and join the community in celebrating the planet’s species. No costume? No problem -- make a mask on-site before the parade!

Parade of Species and Costume Contest

Join us for our fourth annual Parade of Species! Kids, adults and pets are invited to bring or wear your favorite plant or animal costume or make anEarth-Day-scouts-creating-art.jpg animal mask at the event, decorate your wagons and strollers, bring an instrument and march through our event in celebration of all of the animal and plant species with whom we share the earth. 

  • Costume Contest- prizes awarded in the categories of Favorite Animal Costume, Favorite Plant Costume and Favorite Group Costume.
  • 2:30 p.m. - Gather at the gazebo for animal yoga and the costume contest and photo ops with Smokey Bear, Woodsy Owl and mascots from local high schools, middle schools and colleges. 

  • 3 p.m.- Parade starts

Music

Come to the event and hear music by Pick & Howl and Super Magick

 

 

Food and Drinks

A variety of food and drinks will be available at this year's celebration. Plan to grab lunch, dinner and snacks with us at the event!Funnel Cake and Ice Cream Food Truck  

 

 

Electric Vehicle Showcase and Ride and Drive

  • Take a new electric vehicle out for a spin.a blue and red electric vehicle
  • Take an e-bike out for a ride. 
  • Meet the Fleet- check out some of the new electric vehicles and lawn equipment that Lakewood has added to its fleet. Explore the vehicles up close, and learn more about our shift to electric and hybrid options.

Earth Day Art

Our winning Earth Day artist for 2025 is Chelsea Romaniello. Here is Chelsea’s winning design:

  • Participate in creating art at the event—visit the art booth to create an animal mask.

Electronics Recycling Resources

In past years we’ve had an electronics recycling event as a partner to our Earth Day event, however due to declining participation, we will no longer host electronics recycling at this event. Find electronics recycling at these local organizations:
