Lakewood is investing in the future of West Colfax with two major infrastructure projects designed to make the corridor safer, more resilient, and ready for generations to come.

West Colfax is one of Lakewood’s most vital and historic corridors, supporting small businesses, residents, artists and visitors.

Following extensive studies and community engagement, the City of Lakewood is tackling two long-standing challenges in the area: flooding and transportation safety.

Projects and Construction Updates

West Colfax Transportation Safety Project

Safety is another top priority. The West Colfax Transportation Safety Project will improve conditions for everyone who uses the corridor—whether you’re driving, walking, or taking transit. This project will enhance sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, lighting, and intersections, while also reducing vehicle crashes and improving access to local businesses.

North Dry Gulch Project

Flooding along West Colfax has been a persistent problem, putting businesses, homes, and public infrastructure at risk. The North Dry Gulch Stormwater Improvement Project is a major investment to reduce flood risk and remove properties from the regulatory floodplain. This will help protect our community, create new opportunities for businesses, and improve public spaces along North Dry Gulch.

We recognize that construction can be disruptive, and we’re committed to helping West Colfax businesses thrive during this time. The City of Lakewood is rolling out several initiatives to help support and promote local businesses during construction:

Office Hours with Project Staff
Business owners have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with project staff during dedicated office hours to discuss specific concerns and get personalized updates. Office hours are the first Tuesday of the month from 1-4 p.m. at the HUB at 40 West Arts, 6501 W. Colfax Ave., Lakewood, CO 80214.

Improved Business Access Signs
Clearer and more visible signs will help direct customers to businesses along West Colfax, ensuring easier access throughout construction.

#ShopLakewood Campaign
Through social media, marketing and partnerships, we’re encouraging the community to continue shopping, dining and supporting West Colfax businesses. Keep an eye out for special promotions and features!

Together, we can ensure West Colfax continues to be a thriving destination, even while we build a safer, stronger corridor.
