West Calahan Drainage Improvements

Project Description
Groundwater along W. Calahan Avenue has been flowing over sidewalks and into the curb and gutter between S. Upham St. and S. Pierce St. The City is currently evaluating options such as storm sewer and other mitigation applications to redirect these flows off the street to prevent future maintenance and icing conditions.

October 2025 Update
Recently Completed Work
Xcel Energy has completed the gas relocations portion of the project the week of Sept. 29. The project is currently under evaluation on how to best manage the groundwater in the area. 

Upcoming Work
A geotechnical investigation including borings at three locations on W. Calahan Ave. scheduled for Oct. 23.

Traffic Impacts
Traffic control will include lane closures on W. Calahan Ave. during the geotechnical investigation. During these lane closures, drivers can expect to see flaggers directing one way traffic. Local traffic for residents accessing their property will be maintained during this work.

Target Project Completion
Geotechnical boring investigations are expected to last one one or two days. Timing for construction of the mitigation project will be evaluated based on these investigations.
