You can still receive LookoutAlert notifications even without a cell phone. Landlines are included in the LookoutAlert system already and residents can also register email addresses.
Even if you have a landline phone, which is already included in the LookoutAlert system with no registration required, there are several good reasons to take the time to register and add your information into the LookoutAlert system:
- You can provide critical information about your household, including medical needs, pets or mobility concerns that will assist first responders.

- You can opt in to notifications like severe weather alerts or community messages.

- You can add alternative phone numbers, including if you later have a cellphone, to your registration.

- You can set alert preferences and add additional locations, including family members’ residences or a vacation home.

In addition to LookoutAlert, there are several other ways in which community members may receive emergency notifications depending on the severity, type and location of the emergency:
- Public notification methods: (Government-issued alerts through TV and radio – IPAWS: EAS and WEA geotargeted alerts; first responders in field)

- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radio for weather alerts

- Local media partners

- Lakewood 8, the city’s cable television channel

- The city’s website

- City social media channels

Residents are also encouraged to create an emergency preparedness plan with loved ones today. You can find resources and information on how to do that at Ready.gov.
