The Colfax Security Enhancement Pilot provides alternative grant funding to help business owners along West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood create or update safety features on their business properties. The goals are to create safe environments for business owners and their customers and to reduce calls for service.

This is a grant award reimbursement with a maximum amount of $5,000, not to exceed the project amount.
Colfax Security Enhancement Pilot grant cannot be combined with the matching Business Safety and Security Program Grant unless funding is applied to a different project.
There is no matching contribution requirement from the applicant.
Colfax Security Enhancement Pilot will target Colfax-facing businesses in a designated Lakewood, CO area (enter address on map above to confirm eligibility). This is a pilot grant program and additional city areas may be designated in the future.
Reimbursement is only valid for costs expended within the year of the application; expenditures exceeding the allowable amount will not be carried forward to the next year.
If applicable, projects must meet all permitting requirements and receive a certificate of occupancy or certification of completion before reimbursement is made.
Colfax Security Enhancement Pilot grants are awarded as funding allows once the application window closes. The application window, from 8 a.m. on July 1, 2025 to 5 p.m. on July 31, 2025, may be extended on a rolling basis until funding expires. Applicants will be notified within four weeks of window closure. Projects must be completed by Dec. 31, 2025.
Qualified applications received will be considered based on adherence to project criteria and overall positive impact to the business and community. Preference will be given to operating businesses with commercially zoned use.

Application requires a project budget or receipt for project improvements, before and after photos of the project area and a W-9 tax form for the Applicant entity.
Applicant will also be required to enroll in the city’s Business Watch (apply here) and to submit either a Safety and Security Assessment (due to volume of requests, confirmation of phone consultation with Lakewood Police Department will be accepted) (available upon request) or a Police Report.
Business Eligibility
Business must be located in the designated Lakewood, CO area (confirm on map), in a zone district that allows commercial use.
Business must have all necessary licenses to operate and be in good standing.
Project must comply with existing zoning.
Individual centers and multitenant centers are eligible.
Non-profits organizations are eligible.
Project Eligibility
Applicant must be enrolled in the City of Lakewood’s Business Watch and provide one of the following: a Safety and Security Assessment (due to volume of requests, confirmation of phone consultation with Lakewood Police Department will be accepted) or a Police Report.
Examples of projects include but are not limited to lighting, alarms, cameras, windows, entrance doors, mirrors, fences, locks or any improvements allowing law enforcement to more efficiently and effectively respond to public safety issues. Some improvements (such as fencing) may be subject to city code. Please reach out to program administrator to confirm.
