General Admission Fitness Classes

A strength training class takes place in Carmody Rec Center.

Lakewood Recreation offers a range of general admission fitness classes, which are included in the cost of recreation center admission and facility passes. View admission fees and membership details at Lakewood.org/RecAdmission.

Class Descriptions

Ages 14 and up 

CORE AND MORE
This circuit class takes you through a variety of stations that build aerobic and muscular strength as well as endurance. Exercises vary from low intensity and low impact to high intensity and high impact.

LES MILLS CORE® (Formerly CXWORX)

Les Mills Core is an intense 30 minute core-training workout designed to tighten and tone your midsection. Using body weight, free weights, and resistance tubes to challenge balance, coordination and functional strength.  

ESSENTRICS
This one hour, dynamic full-body, low-impact workout will give you a perfect balance of strength and flexibility for a strong and agile body. Essentrics can help you gain strength, eliminate joint pain, improve posture, reduce back pain, improve balance, gain flexibility and have fun! 

FIT INTENSITY
Increase your heart rate and metabolism with this interval-heavy workout. Class entails long work periods with short rest periods switching between cardiovascular and strength-building exercises. Exercises focus on functional movement.

INDOOR CYCLING
Using stationary bikes, cycle offers a non-impact cardio workout to strengthen your heart and increase athletic performance. Rides are intended to mimic cycling on the road by increasing cadence or resistance. 

LABLAST

LaBlast is a dance fitness program based on ballroom dances you see on Dancing with the Stars. It is partner-free, includes all components of fitness, and uses music from every era and genre. You choose your own intensity by adding optional plyometric movements, light weights, heavy weights, or simply keeping your workout low impact. 

STRETCH
This class focuses solely on holding static stretches for each muscle group to increase joint flexibility, prevent injuries and release tight fascia. Come out feeling refreshed and relaxed. 

ZUMBA®
Zumba classes are taught by Zumba certified instructors. They involve dance choreography that is fun, quick moving and challenging. Different instructors may teach with higher or lower impact and change music to appeal to their class participants. Music varies between pop, hip hop and Latin. Also offered bilingually at the Link by an instructor fluent in Spanish and English, set to a fusion of Latin music.


Ages 55 and up

ESSENTRICS

This is a slow, gentle stretch and strengthening workout that focuses on increasing mobility, flexibility and balance while relieving pain.

FIT FOREVER

This low-impact class has the goal of improving cardio fitness and endurance; some strength and core work is included. Class has been combined with basic Fit Forever to help participants increase muscular strength, and improve posture, balance and stability.  

SENIOR STRENGTH

This class is designed to increase strength and endurance using body weight, bands and dumbbells.

SILVERSNEAKERS® CLASSIC 
This class is designed to increase strength, range of motion, agility, balance and coordination, and to improve participants' functional capacities, physical fitness level and sense of well-being. Class has the option of using a chair.

SILVERSNEAKERS® SPLASH 
This class uses the water’s properties to enhance agility, range of motion and endurance. 

TAI CHI FOR SENIORS 
Tai Chi is a system of movements and positions believed to have been developed in 12th century China. Techniques aim to address the body and mind as an interconnected system and are traditionally believed to improve posture, balance, flexibility, and strength.

YOGA STRETCH
This class is designed to give participants the benefits of yoga, with breathing and flexibility work, using a chair for seated exercises as well as a balance tool for standing work.
