Parks Volunteer Open House

Are you curious about volunteering in a park? This is your chance!

Learn more about volunteer opportunities at our open house on March 20 at the Bear Creek Lake Park Visitor Center. We will be recruiting for garden projects, educational programs, park patrols, trail maintenance, wildlife monitoring, habitat restoration and campground hosting. 

Admission is free; the park entrance fee will be waived.

Volunteer descriptions

Adopt-a-Garden Volunteer

Volunteers will assist with maintenance, upkeep and planting of the xeric and pollinator gardens at the Bear Creek Lake Park Visitor Center. Volunteers may assist with other garden sites or plantings as needed (tree watering).

Volunteer Naturalist

The Volunteer Naturalist’s primary purpose is to lead (present) and create a variety of quality educational programs and assist the park naturalists in their programs for public and scheduled groups.

Volunteer Park Steward

The Volunteer Park Steward's primary purpose is to assist with crowd control, crafts, and more with the Park Naturalists in a variety of quality educational programs for the public and scheduled groups.

Park Patroller (mountain bike, horse, hike)

The Park Patrol’s primary purpose is to: provide for the safe and enjoyable use of the open space park trails by all park users.

Trail Crew Volunteer

This volunteer positions primary purpose is to help with the Natural Resources Crew maintaining and constructing soft surface trails in Bear Creek Lake Park and at William Frederick Hayden Park. 

Wildlife Monitor Volunteer

This volunteer positions primary purpose is to monitor, maintain, and inform on wildlife sightings, Blue Bird boxes, Bat boxes and or Raptors at Bear Creek Lake Park, William Fredrick Hayden Park on Green Mountain, and the Green Belt. These duties will include recording and maintenance of data, and working alongside the Natural Resources team, Naturalist, and Rangers to ensure monitoring locations are being checked and maintained.

Habitat Restoration Volunteer

This volunteer positions primary purpose is to perform restoration duties and projects under the volunteer coordinator. Some of these duties include watering recently planted restoration sites, deconstructing and closing social trails, helping plant and seed native vegetation and mechanical noxious weed removal at Bear Creek Lake Park, William Fredrick Hayden Park on Green Mountain and the Green Belt.
