"The Three Musketeers"
Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
In a new adaptation of this epic tale, The Acting Company mashes up waltz with spoken word, high court drama with high fashion hip-hop to reclaim the swashbuckling classic for today. Inspiration is drawn from the astonishing secret that Dumas’ father, General Alex Dumas, was the highest-ranking person of color in a Western military until our own time.

"Romeo and Juliet"
Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Set in the contemporary chaos of a city steeped in class and racial conflict, Shakespeare’s timeless tale of two star-crossed lovers who follow their passion to its tragic end is as relevant today as it was to audiences four centuries ago. Amid swanky society parties, moonlit nights, desolate churchyards and blood-strewn streets, The Acting Company’s fresh production is a lesson in hope and healing.

NEA grant awarded to LCC to support diversity in the arts
January 12, 2023 - Lakewood Cultural Center (LCC) is pleased to announce it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to receive a Grants for Arts Projects award of $10,000. This grant will support a “Recalibrated Reflections” project to provide diversity through the arts. T
LCC has designed a multidisciplinary art project that includes three primary components:
- Theatrical productions of “The Three Musketeers” and “Romeo & Juliet” performed by the Tony Award-winning theater group, The Acting Company during the LCC Presents spring series on Feb. 22 and 23.
- Creation of on-site murals by local artists from various racial and ethnic backgrounds inspired by the themes highlighted in the performances by The Acting Company.
- Community discussions led by the mural artists in each of the geographical wards across the City of Lakewood during the summer of 2023.
The mural component focuses on bringing together artists from various racial and ethnic backgrounds to draw from their personal experiences and creatively explore thematic elements of The Acting Company’s performances from a contemporary perspective. Thus, the project is designed to reach individuals who are underrepresented in the arts and increase inclusivity.
