High School students share their appreciation for snowplow drivers
March 6, 2025 - A group of Lakewood High School juniors and seniors visited the Lakewood Public Works maintenance campus to present more than 50 “Thank You” cards to the city’s team of snowplow drivers and maintenance workers.
It was a small token of appreciation for the often overlooked work that goes into keeping roads clear of snow and ice, including for those who need to go to school.
“We just really appreciate all the work that happens here because driving to school can get scary when it's snowy,” said one student.
Snow removal on city-owned streets in Lakewood is one of the Public Works Department's major responsibilities, and staff work around the clock during snow events to clear snow and ice from more than 250 miles of road.

The LHS students said they have recently been arriving to school Thursday mornings to promote their “Thank You” card drive and to gather submissions. Each card contained a handwritten note from an LHS student.
“It's not a huge deal for us, but we know it means a lot to them,” a student said of the cards.
The gesture was appreciated by the drivers, who gathered early on March 6 to meet the students and receive the cards.
“That was awesome,” snowplow driver Nicholas Sigler said afterward. “Very appreciative of them thinking about us and what we do, and it's very nice knowing that kids are thinking about what actually goes on and how the streets stay cleared and safe.”
Fellow driver Luke Spurrier agreed.
“Bringing those cards made us feel appreciated. You don't often see that as a plow driver. It was nice to see someone saying, ‘Hey, we notice what you do.’”
