The meal program is a partnership between the City of Lakewood and Volunteers of America that offers congregate dining for those 60 and older. The focus is to serve hot, nutritious noon meals, socialization, exercise and games. Meals are served Monday through Thursday to those 60 years of age and older.

Volunteer Purpose
To assist in set up of the dining area, monitoring of food once delivered, and serving of meals.
Responsibilities
- Greeting diners and guests in a friendly and welcoming manner.
- Adhere to all VOA and Jefferson County Public Health rules.
- Setting up kitchen area and tables.
- At times, taking temperature of food. Training provided.
- Making sure coffee, water and iced tea are available.
- Preparation for serving food.
- Plating food.
- Serving food and beverages to diners.
- Cleaning kitchen area and dining tables.
Volunteers are not required to cook.
Qualifications
Background check is required. Volunteer must be able to positively interact with participants, the public, other volunteers and staff. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, and bring a spirit of inclusiveness and fun to our programs. The volunteer will be working in cooperation with other volunteers, participants, and City of Lakewood staff members.
Age Requirement
The minimum age requirement is 21.
Schedule
Meals are served Monday through Thursday. Volunteer hours are scheduled between 9:30 a.m. to 1 pm. Scheduled days and hours can be negotiated with the Program Specialist Congregate Meal Site.
Training
Provided by the Program Specialist Congregate Meal Site, other volunteers, and update training provided by Volunteers of America staff.
Dress Code
Volunteers are required to dress in casual attire and comfortable shoes. May have to wear a hair net if serving.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors at the Clements Community Center facility. The dining room is busy and sometimes noisy with exercise classes and music at various times of the week.
Punctuality and Absenteeism
If the volunteer will be late or miss scheduled day(s), they must contact the Program Specialist Congregate Meal Site.
