Lakewood Transitions to Modern Emergency Notification System
Published on October 15, 2025
The City of Lakewood is announcing change to its public safety communication strategy, officially deactivating its outdated outdoor warning sirens at the end of 2025. This strategic decision marks a full transition to LookoutAlert powered by Smart911, a modern, effective emergency notification system that provides real-time, actionable information directly to residents.
Lakewood's outdoor sirens, initially installed to provide general warnings to those outdoors, have reached the end of their service life. Their effectiveness is limited by distance, weather, background noise, and their inability to reach residents indoors. Furthermore, these sirens provide only a generic alert, offering no specific information about the type or location of the emergency.
LookoutAlert powered by Smart911, the official emergency notification system for Lakewood and all of Jefferson County, is designed to be your most reliable source of information during critical events like severe storms, wildfires, or floods. Unlike the old sirens, LookoutAlert powered by Smart911 provides detailed, lifesaving information exactly when and where you need it.
You can join LookoutAlert in two ways: go online to LookoutAlert.co or download the Smart911 app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. No matter which you choose, you’ll get emergency alerts for severe weather, safety risks, and other emergencies, and you’ll also create a free Safety Profile that gives 9-1-1 important details to help first responders.
For residents who may need assistance, Jeffcom911 has launched a dedicated LookoutAlert Assistance Line to help with the registration process. The LookoutAlert Assistance Line can be reached at 720-230-2270. Voicemails are monitored regularly, and a representative will return your call within 1-2 business days to help you complete your registration.
The deactivation of the outdoor sirens is a proactive step toward a more secure future for Lakewood. By transitioning to LookoutAlert powered by Smart911, the city is committed to providing its residents with the best possible tools to stay safe and informed during any emergency.
