Join us for a community celebration of Independence Day 2023 in Belmar - Downtown Lakewood on Monday, July 3 from 5 to 10 p.m.

The City of Lakewood and Belmar - Downtown Lakewood are partnering to create a community celebration including live music, kids' activities, local vendors, food and drinks! The gathering will take place throughout Belmar, including along S. Teller St. and in the Belmar Plaza. Enjoy a variety of shopping and dining options in Belmar throughout the event as well. Festivities will conclude with a drone light show at approximately 9:15 p.m.

The event will take place rain or shine. The drone light show may be cancelled in the case of excessive winds or poor visibility. The rain date for the drone light show will be July 5 at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Vote for your favorite drone display to include in the Big Belmar Bash drone light show by May 31.

Beer Garden

The Beer Garden will feature local selections from Lakewood Breweries including: 6 and 40 Brewery, Colorado Cider Company, Green Mountain Beer Company, Landlocked Ales, Old 121 Brewhouse and Westfax Brewing Company.

The Beer Garden will be located in the east parking lot off of S. Teller and W. Virginia Ave., directly across from Belmar Square Park.

The Radio Band will play from 5:30 - 9 p.m. The stage will be located at the south end of S. Teller St. at W. Virginia Ave.

The Radio Band is a killer live band and will keep you on the dance floor all night long. This mash-up style dance band loves to tell their clients, “you pick the station, we’ll play the hits." They pride themselves on delivering jaw-dropping concert-style performances for events. As a party band, Denver's The Radio Band was built to turn on a dime musically so whether it’s pop, rock, country, R&B, swing, or EDM, they will blow you away.

Kids' activities will include a bubble tower, DJ, giant games, bounce houses, and more!

 

 

Festivities for the day will conclude with a drone light show at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Drones will be set up and fly over Belmar Square Parkat 7241 W. Custer Ave., just to the south of W. Virginia Ave. between S. Upham Ct. and St. Teller Ct.

Sky Elements, a leading provider of aerial entertainment, will be producing the cutting-edge drone light show. The show, which features a fleet of drones equipped with state-of-the-art LED lights, will feature a mesmerizing display of synchronized drones, creating a breathtaking visual experience that is sure to leave audiences in awe. The drones will perform intricate maneuvers, forming patterns and shapes in the sky while displaying a variety of colors and effects.

The show will be designed to face Belmar Downtown Lakewood from Belmar Square Park. Anyone viewing from the south of Belmar Square Park will be viewing the show in reverse.

  • Bring your own folding chairs to sit, enjoy the band and watch the drone light show.
  • The west and east parking lots off of S. Teller & W. Virginia Ave., directly across from Belmar Square Park, are best for viewing the musical performance and drone light show from your own lawn chairs.
  • The drone light show can be viewed from your parked vehicle at the following lots: 
  • Best Buy and Nordstrom Rack parking lot at S. Vance just south of W. Alameda Ave.
  • Alameda Shops parking lot between S. Teller St. and S. Salisbury St., just south of W. Alameda Ave.
  • Hobby Lobby parking lot to the east off of S. Salisbury St., just south of W. Alameda Ave.

 

Detours/Road Closures

The following roads will be closed on July 3 starting at 3 p.m. until approximately midnight.

  • S. Upham St. from W. Alaska Dr. to W. Virginia Ave.
  • W. Virginia Ave. from S. Upham St. to S. Salisbury St..
  • S. Teller St. from the entrance to the Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot, just south of W. Alameda Ave. to W. Virginia Ave.
  • S. Upham Court between W. Virginia Ave. to W. Custer Ave..
  • S. Teller Court between W. Virginia Ave. to W. Custer Ave.
  • The west and east parking lots off of S. Teller & W. Virginia Ave. directly across from Belmar Square Park will be closed to parking starting July 3 at 3 a.m.

 

Parking 

  • All parking lots/garages in Belmar Downtown Lakewood will be open to the public on a first come first serve basis, except for the two parking lots at the end of S. Teller St. at W. Virginia Ave., which will be used exclusively for event activities and drone light show viewing.
  • Nearby parking for those with accessibility needs will be available in the parking garage to the east and behind Century Theatres.
  • If you park in available street parking before closures at 3p.m. the day of the event, your car may remain, but you will not be able to move it until after midnight.

 

Port-o-Lets

  • Port-o-lets, will be available around the event, including accessible port-o-lets.
  • Location #1 - along W. Alaska to the east of S. Teller St. between LensCrafters and Bar Louie.
  • Location #2 - along S. Upham St., next to the exit from the Target parking lot.
  • Location #3 – to the west of the Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot near the entrance to the parking garage.
  • Permanent restrooms can be found to the north of Belmar Plaza next to Locust Cider.

Water Bottle Refill Station 

  • Bring your own refillable water bottle and fill up at the water station. 

  • The water bottle refill station will be located on S. Teller St. just north of the beer garden and food trucks. 

Bike Racks

  • If you are planning on biking to Belmar Downtown Lakewood, bike racks can be found throughout Belmar, including along W. Alaska Dr., S. Teller St. and in Belmar Plaza.

First Aid Station

  •  The first aid station will be located in the northeast corner of Belmar Plaza off of S. Teller St.

 

 

 

  • Why are there no fireworks this year and why a drone light show instead? The community gathering culminating in a drone light show was an opportunity for the City of Lakewood to partner with Belmar Downtown Lakewood to provide a high caliber event without the fire hazard of fireworks.
  • Where do I park? All parking lots in Belmar Downtown Lakewood will be open to the public on a first come first serve basis, except for the two parking lots at the end of S. Teller St. at W. Virginia Ave., which will be used exclusively for event activities and viewing.
    • Nearby parking for those with accessibility needs will be available in the parking garage to the east and behind Century Theatres.

  • Is there music with the drone show? MIX 100 will be providing the soundtrack for the drone light show. We’ll be broadcasting the station from the band stage at S. Teller St. at W. Virginia Ave. Tune into 100.3 FM to listen along or stream live from your phone!
  • Which way should I face? For the best viewing of the drone light show, face towards Belmar Square Park from any of the identified viewing locations.
  • What happens if there is bad weather? The event will take place rain or shine. The drone light show may be cancelled in the case of excessive winds or poor visibility.
