Lakewood's new website coming in 2026

Lakewood is preparing to launch a new city website in early 2026, designed to provide residents with a more user-friendly, accessible, and secure digital experience.

With more than 11 million visits last year, Lakewood’s website is one of the city’s most important tools for connecting with the community. From paying bills and applying for permits to learning about events and city projects, residents rely on the site every day to stay informed and engaged. The new website will build on that foundation with improved navigation, search functionality, and accessibility.

As part of this modernization effort, the City is also transitioning from a .org to an official .gov domain to enhance security, strengthen public trust, and make it easier for residents to identify legitimate city information online.

The .gov designation is reserved exclusively for verified U.S. government entities—local, state, tribal, and federal—so when you visit a .gov website, you can be confident that you’re interacting with an authentic government source. This helps protect residents from phishing attempts, impersonation scams, and fraudulent websites.

What’s changing with the new website?

The redesigned site will feature:

  • A search-forward design for faster, easier access to information.
  • Improved information architecture and clearer pathways to services.
  • Streamlined access to popular tools like bill payment, permit applications, city news and event calendars.
  • Enhanced accessibility that meets federal standards to ensure inclusivity.
  • Modern design and technology that reflect Lakewood’s commitment to transparency and innovation.

Why is Lakewood transitioning to a .gov domain?

The city is moving from Lakewood.org to a .gov domain to strengthen security and public trust. All levels of U.S. government are eligible for a .gov address, which signals authenticity and helps combat phishing or impersonation. The program is managed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and includes mandated security features that protect both residents and government systems. This change helps ensure a clear and secure way for residents to access official city information online.

Managed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the .gov program includes built-in security standards that safeguard both residents and city systems. These measures support:

  • Stronger protection of personal data when residents access city services online
  • Greater transparency and accountability, ensuring information truly comes from the City
  • Simplified access to official resources and online services through a single, trusted domain
  • Improved cybersecurity resilience for the City’s digital infrastructure

Together, the launch of the new website and the transition to the .gov domain reflect Lakewood’s ongoing commitment to digital trust, accessibility, and public safety—ensuring that residents, businesses, and visitors have a clear, secure, and reliable way to connect with the City online.

Will my Lakewood.org bookmarks still work?

All Lakewood.org URLs will automatically redirect to the new .gov site, and existing bookmarks and links will still function.

When will the new website launch?

The new website is expected to launch in January 2026.

How was community feedback used in the redesign?

Earlier this year, the city conducted a public survey to gather feedback from residents and employees about how they use the current website and what improvements they wanted to see. That feedback—focused on improving navigation, clarity, and user experience—is directly guiding the redesign.

After the new website launches, the city will conduct another survey to continue gathering community input and ensure the site evolves to meet residents’ needs.
