The 40 West Arts District in Lakewood is in the running to be named the best place in the metro area to live, work or play, and residents are encouraged to vote online to make it the people’s choice.
Vote often at www3.drcog.org/LiveWorkPlay/Form/Vote. Voting closes at noon, Wednesday, April 24.
The 40 West Arts District is a finalist for the 2013 Live Work Play People’s Choice Award presented by the Denver Regional Council of Governments. The award honors outstanding places, events and projects that support and contribute to livable communities.
Artists, neighbors, business owners and students helped create the arts district a little more than a year ago. The district, adjacent to the West Colfax Avenue corridor, is at the intersection of the famous avenue, historic Lakewood neighborhoods, a new Lamar Station for the West Rail Line and the vibrant Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design.
The district has a newly opened performance theater, and it has hosted several events and art exhibits as well as participating in Denver Arts Week, Lakewood’s annual Inspire Arts Week and the 2013 Month of Photography. The state has named it an emerging arts district, and visitors will be able to attend 40 West exhibits and performances by using the West Line when it opens this month.
