Lakewood has been celebrating 50 amazing years as a city all year, and the fun continues with the free birthday bash Party on the Plaza, 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 at Civic Center Plaza, 470 S. Allison Parkway. Listen to favorite songs from 1969 by The Modniks and get festive with birthday cake and balloon animals. Partygoers also can play lawn games, marvel at a magician, get their faces painted and be entertained by buskers. New this year, talented pups will perform impressive tricks at The Canine Stars Stunt Dog Show.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Enjoy dinner al fresco with food truck fare including sliders and tacos from Chibby Wibbitz, inventive macaroni and cheese options from Mac 'N Noodles and dessert by Scrumptious Ice Creamer. Kiwanis Club of Alameda West Foundation will host a beer tent serving Colorado beer and wine.
