Pre-1920 Lakewood Historic Property Survey

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in collaboration with Pinyon Environmental, Inc., conducted research on properties dating from 1919 or earlier within the City of Lakewood boundaries and evaluated the historical significance of these properties. Of the historic buildings identified, the project team conducted reconnaissance surveys for 93 properties not previously surveyed in Lakewood. These surveys and the accompanying report provides baseline data and historical background and context on the city’s early history and will help the City of Lakewood and the Historic Preservation Commission identify future priority areas for additional analysis and survey.

CDOT staff presented their survey results at the virtual Historic Preservation Commission Study Session held on Tuesday, March 31st, 2020. A copy of the presentation is available below. A recording of the presentation and virtual meeting is accessible from the City of Lakewood YouTube Channel via this link:

The survey was funded by CDOT. For more information on the project, please contact Jamie Shapiro, CDOT Assistant Historian, by email at or 303-512-4672.
