The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in collaboration with Pinyon Environmental, Inc., conducted research on properties dating from 1919 or earlier within the City of Lakewood boundaries and evaluated the historical significance of these properties. Of the historic buildings identified, the project team conducted reconnaissance surveys for 93 properties not previously surveyed in Lakewood. These surveys and the accompanying report provides baseline data and historical background and context on the city’s early history and will help the City of Lakewood and the Historic Preservation Commission identify future priority areas for additional analysis and survey.

CDOT staff will be sharing the results of their research at a virtual Historic Preservation Commission Study Session on Tuesday, March 31st. The virtual meeting starts at 6:30pm and can be accessed from the City of Lakewood YouTube channel via this link: https://youtu.be/f8BNtJgwqas. Please check the Historic Preservation Commission Meeting page for the full meeting agenda. The presentation planned for the March 17th, 2020 Historic Preservation Commission Study Session was cancelled due to COVID-19.

The survey was funded by CDOT. For more information on the project, please contact Jamie Shapiro, CDOT Assistant Historian, by email at Jamie.shapiro@state.co.us or 303-512-4672.
