Lap and Open Swim
For lap and open swim times, view city pool schedules.
Acquire basic swimming skills and comfort in water. No prior swimming experience needed.
Must have completed fundamentals class or can demonstrate skills acquired in fundamentals. Front and back crawl
Must have completed development class or can demonstrate skills acquired in development. Refine strokes so participants can swim with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Training
This course will give you all the certifications necessary to become a professional lifeguard: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED and First Aid. Certifications are good for two years.
Skills Test: The following skills must be performed before participants are allowed in Lifeguard training class:
- Swim 300 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.
- Retrieve a 10 pound brick in 12-foot deep water without assistance and without goggles.
Ages: 15 and up
Fee: $175 Resident, $205 Nonresident
Location: Carmody Recreation Center
WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
This course will provide you with the certification necessary to instruct American Red Cross Swimming lessons! Course fees cover all materials and includes the FIT (Fundamentals of Instructor Training) Certification.
Skills Test: The following skills must be performed BEFORE participants are allowed in the WSI class. If participants cannot complete the skills listed on the first day of class, they will not be allowed to participate in the course and will be issued a refund.
- Demonstrate proficient front and back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and butterfly.
Ages: 16 and up
Fee: $200 Resident, $230 Nonresident
