Purpose
The park steward’s primary purpose is to assist the Park Naturalists and volunteer naturalist s in a variety of quality educational programs for the public and scheduled groups.
Responsibilities
Park stewards are responsible for assisting in educational programs such as campfire talks, full moon walks, and large events at Bear Creek Lake Park and other areas as assigned.
Park stewards will assist with crowd control, set up and tear down, and other educational program tasks. Guides will not be leading educational programs. park steward s are responsible to complete a minimum 20 hours per year and assist with at least two educational programs a year.
Schedule
Shifts will mainly be evenings and weekends and vary depending on program schedules. Shifts will also be created to provide roving or stationary educational opportunities within the parks. This is a year-round position.
Qualifications
The volunteer must be able to prove the following ability to:
- Complete all training.
- Work with the Park Naturalist and volunteer naturalists in a team.
- Work in variable weather.
- Work weekends and evenings.
- Wear provided uniform.
- Be physically capable to assist with programs.
- Enter all volunteer hours in the City’s Volgistics and reporting systems.
Age Requirement
There is no minimum age for this committee. Volunteers under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult while performing volunteer service.
Training
An approximately 1 hour basic park orientation will be required, along with specific park steward training which will last approximately 2 hours. Additional educational enrichment and job shadowing (required) will be offered throughout the year.
Work Environment
Indoor/Outdoor – this position participates year-round. The changing Colorado weather is a strong factor. This is an active position that requires standing/hiking for long periods of time and occasional lifting.
