Purpose
This volunteer position's primary purpose is to perform restoration duties and projects under the volunteer coordinator.
Some of these duties include watering recently planted restoration sites, deconstructing and closing social trails, helping plant and seed native vegetation and mechanical noxious weed removal at Bear Creek Lake Park, William Fredrick Hayden Park on Green Mountain and the Green Belt.
Responsibilities
- Water newly planted vegetation.
- Assist in restoration projects, which include plantings, seeding, erosion control, debris removal, noxious weed removal.
- Close social trails and maintain closures.
- Mechanical removal of noxious weeds (pulling, seed-head cutting).
Habitat restoration volunteers must participate in a minimum of three projects and assist in a monthly upkeep of one or more assignments (watering a set of plants, assigned social trail, etc). Habitat Restoration Volunteers are responsible to complete a minimum of at least 20 hours per year to obtain an annual park pass.
Schedule
Habitat Restoration Volunteers have no set schedule, some work will be on scheduled project days and some will be completed on the volunteers own time.
Qualifications
The volunteer must be able to prove the following ability to:
- Complete all training.
- Work with Natural Resources staff.
- Wear provided uniform.
- Be physically capable to perform duties as required.
- Enter all volunteer hours in the City’s Volgistics and reporting systems.
Age Requirement
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or minors with adult supervision.
Training
A basic, approximately 1 hour, park orientation will be required, along with a 1 hour specific in-field training with the Natural Resources Specialist. Additional educational enrichment and job shadowing will be offered throughout the year.
Work Environment
Outdoor – This position participates year-round. The changing Colorado weather is a strong factor.
