Rockin' Block Party
Time to HANG LOOSE and COME TOGETHER for our annual summer kick off event!
This year, travel back in time with us to 1969 for an evening full of FREE live music, family fun and an outdoor movie.
4 Lads from Liverpool | 7 p.m.
Because you guessed it, nothing says 1969 like the Beatles. The Beatles changed the way we all listen to music, and '69 was an important year for the group. It was the year of their last public performance -there was a rooftop involved- and the year they released their, now infamous "Abbey Road" album.
These lads will be performing The Beatles' top hits from the 60s and paying homage to that monumental year we fondly reflect on today.
Soul Sacrifice | 5:30 p.m.
With great passion and precision, Soul Sacrifice faithfully recreates the music of the legendary band Santana. From their electrifying breakthrough performance at Woodstock in 1969 to the recent smash hits of the albums "Supernatural" and "Shaman", Santana's music has appealed to multiple generations of fans, transcending age, ethnicity and genre-creating the music that has become the soundtrack for the world.
The Love Bug | 9 p.m.
Race car driver Jim Douglas (Dean Jones) and his philosophical mechanic, Tennessee Steinmetz (Buddy Hackett), find themselves in possession of a white Volkswagen Beetle that seems to have a mind and spirit of its own. Calling the car Herbie, Jim and Tennessee become the talk of the California racing circuit -- much to the displeasure of sports car dealer Peter Thorndyke (David Tomlinson), who tries to use his assistant (Michele Lee) to come between the friends and their car.
Best Dressed Competition
Wear your best flower-power fashions recalling a time when tie dye, flared pants, fringed vests and round, colorful glasses were all the rage. The best dressed kids and adults will walk away with some great prizes from the best dressed competition!
Winners Announced at 6:45 p.m. from the amphitheater.
There’s no end to the fun. This year at Rockin’ Block, children can enjoy tractor-pulled hay wagon rides, pulled by our 1940 McCormic Farmall “H” tractor, a bubble tower, balloon twisting, face painting, arts & crafts, a special visit by a West Metro Firetruck, and so much more! All for FREE!
Enjoy fun entertainment from the gazebo including a hula hoop class, Zumba & drums for all ages, and a dance performance by Premier Dance Academy.
Let's bring it back to those first steps on the moon, shall we? In honor of Neil Armstrong, the kiddos will have an opportunity to dress up like an astronaut and enjoy some fun activities commemorating that memorable trip to the moon and back.
Ready Jet Go! Screening | 5:30 p.m.
In honor of the 1969 moon landing, we've partnered with Rocky Mountain PBS to host a special screening of Ready Jet Go! In this particular special, Jet and his Boxwood Terrance friends learn all about Neil Armstrong and the Apollo Space Program as they embark on a sleepover on the Moon. Screening will be located in the Country Schoolhouse.
At 8:30 p.m. Jeffco Open Space will be setting up their telescope for anyone who wants to snag a peek at stars!
