Take part in Lakewood’s Park and Recreation Month Challenge
Published on July 01, 2020
Lakewood is celebrating Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). This year’s theme is “We Are Parks and Recreation.” Join the city as we celebrate the selfless, passionate and essential work of park and recreation professionals who are providing services that are vital to a healthy community.
Thanks in large part to park and recreation professionals, the Lakewood community benefits from recreation and leisure activities at 110 parks, 240 miles of shared use trails, four recreation centers and Clements Community Center for older adults. People in this profession are frontline staff, confronting our most pressing health, environmental and social challenges. For example, staff are keeping our community’s wellness a priority and closely following public health guidelines to implement phased reopening procedures at playgrounds, courts, Surfside Spray Park, Carmody Recreation Center and amenities at Bear Creek Lake Park. If you see a staff member this month, please take a moment to say thank you.
Lakewood also encourages residents to explore, relax, play and move throughout the month by participating in its Park and Recreation Month Challenge. All activities can be completed outdoors in Lakewood parks, and modifications are welcome for people of all ages and abilities. Find a list of challenge activities at Lakewood.org/July or follow along on social media for weekly prompts at @LakewoodParksRec on Facebook and @LakewoodRec on Instagram.
Throughout July, take a photo of each challenge activity you complete and post it on social media using the hashtag #LakewoodParksRec for a chance to win prizes. Winners will be randomly selected on July 31, and prizes include Lakewood Recreation gift certificates, a 2021 Bear Creek Lake Park annual pass and green fees for a foursome at Homestead Golf Course.
