Lakewood parks employees honor military veterans at Saluting Branches
Published on October 04, 2023
Oct. 10, 2023 – City of Lakewood arborists and park employees joined 285 registered volunteers at Fort Logan National Cemetery to participate in the ninth annual Saluting Branches event, making Fort Logan the largest event site in the nation. Saluting Branches is the largest single day of service in the forestry industry, and it is dedicated to honoring and recognizing the sacrifices and services of our military veterans.
Eighteen Lakewood employees helped to plant 42 trees at Fort Logan this year. In addition to planting, they also joined other volunteers by providing pruning, tree and stump removals, tree health evaluations, insect and disease treatments and tree mapping services.
“Lakewood is proud to support Saluting Branches and even more proud of our local arborist community for coming together to support such a great cause," said event organizer and Lakewood Forestry Supervisor Luke Killoran. "Providing free tree care services for our veterans is such a rewarding experience; there is nothing like it in our industry.”
Saluting Branches is a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing and honoring veterans. Since it began in 2015, Saluting Branches has brought together over 15,000 arborists and tree care professionals at 100 veteran sites across 48 states. The hours volunteered by participants translate into more than $15 million worth of donated services to our country's veteran cemeteries.
