Police Accreditation Assessment Team invites public comment

Published on March 02, 2021

As a law enforcement agency holding Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation since 1986, the Lakewood Police Department takes great pride in serving its community. Every four years, Assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) performs an examination of all aspects of our department’s policies and procedures, administration, operations, support services, and adherence to the CALEA professional standards. This voluntary process is required to gain our 10th reaccreditation status.

For this four-year cycle, the Lakewood Police Department’s CALEA Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation “site-based” assessment is scheduled for March 15 through March 17, 2021. As part of the assessment, our agency invites members of the public to offer comments by calling 720-218-4120 or 720-322-3129 on Tuesday March 16, 2021, between 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

In addition, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the agency will host a virtual public hearing for comments on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 1 p.m. The links to the virtual public hearing are: https://lakewood.zoom.us/j/99012386195 and https://lakewood.zoom.us/j/94329874604?pwd=ZytPKzY1Y2kwK0JmUEt2WUsvU3dwQ T09.

Telephone and Public Hearing comments are limited to five minutes and must address the Lakewood Police Department’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. If the public has questions regarding the specific standards or standard topics, they may contact Accreditation Manager Jacquelyn Winbush at 303-987-7371 or via email at jacwin@lakewoodco.org.

Written comments regarding the Lakewood Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for reaccreditation may be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) at: 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.
