April 9, 2024 – Lakewood is celebrating Older Americans Month with a wellness fair, programs, and excursions that highlight the significant role older adults play in the vitality of our community.

Fair
Lakewood will host a free day of fitness, wellness, and information sharing on Friday, May 10 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Charles Whitlock Recreation Center, 1555 Dover St. Participants ages 55 and older, caregivers, and those living with older adults can engage in fitness demonstrations, balance tests, health assessments and blood pressure checks. The event will feature discounted fitness passes, giveaways, and over 60 local vendors and resources.

Healthy living
Throughout May, Lakewood offers various opportunities to support healthy, independent living including yoga, Qi Gong, Brain Gym and dance. A comprehensive list of events and activities are available at Lakewood.org/Register.

Excursions and other activities
Older Americans Month serves as a platform to promote modern perceptions of aging and the benefits of older adults remaining independent, engaged and included. In the month of May, Clements Community Center will offer excursions including a Colorado Rockies game, Evergreen Farmer’s Market and more.
