Lakewood celebrates Older Americans Month

April 25, 2023 – Lakewood is celebrating Older Americans Month with a wellness fair, programs and exhibitions supporting the key role older adults play in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks and lives.
Lakewood Recreation is hosting a free day of fitness, wellness and information sharing from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, during the Older Adult Wellness Fair at Charles Whitlock Recreation Center, 1555 Dover St. Attendees ages 55 or older, caregivers or those living with someone who is an older adult, can participate in fitness demonstrations, balance tests, health assessments, and blood pressure checks. Discounted fitness passes and giveaways will be available, and more than 60 local vendors and resources will be in attendance. The event is free to the public, and no registration is necessary.
Throughout the month of May, Lakewood is offering opportunities to support healthy, independent living and to explore diverse aging experiences with highlights including:
- BINGO night.
- Tea & cookies socials.
- Informational sessions.
- Demonstrations of the Freedom Trax off-road attachments for wheelchairs.

Lakewood Cultural Center will cap off the month with “The Passions Project,” an art exhibition of portraits celebrating the essence of older adults doing what they love. The exhibition begins May 25 in the Corner Gallery.
