Get on board!
Published on October 22, 2020
Apply to serve on one of Lakewood’s boards and commissions to make meaningful contributions to your community. The deadline to apply for current openings is 5 p.m. Nov. 20 at Lakewood.org/GetOnBoard.
Budget and Audit Board: There is one opening for a three-year term starting Jan. 1, 2021. This board serves as a financial oversight committee for the city, reviewing financial information and providing feedback on budgetary compliance. The board typically meets four times a year at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays. Preferred qualifications include possessing a budgeting and strategic financial planning background and having a familiarity with financial statement audits.
Lakewood Advisory Commission: There are several openings for unexpired terms. Commission members serve as advisers to City Council by researching specific issues or topics of interest to residents to make recommendations for potential action. Members should plan to attend at least one meeting a month. Applicants must attend both a virtual full commission meeting and a virtual individual committee meeting before applying. Visit Lakewood.org/LAC for more information.
Noxious Weed Local Advisory Board: One opening currently exists for a term that ends May 31, 2022. This board is responsible to the City Council and is charged with reviewing and approving noxious weed management plans for private property because of complaints received from adjacent property owners. The board, however, does not review or approve the city’s operational weed management plans for city-owned property. Meetings typically occur one to three times a year for about two hours. Members must be qualified by experience and training in areas such as landscaping, agriculture and natural resource management.
