If art could talk really means something now along the 40 West ArtLine outdoor art adventure. New free audio tours available through QR codes connect to artist interviews, historical tidbits and more, making the journey through more than 70 pieces of art a true quest.

The tours take listeners on three different routes along the ArtLine, offering local knowledge, in-depth information about the art and artists and a unique musical soundtrack. Written, produced and narrated by Corinne Anderson, the audio tours are the culmination of her experience as an arts reporter in Denver and an in-person guide for street art tours through her business, The Street Art Network. Scanning the codes placed along the ArtLine offers episodes ranging from five to 15 minutes that were inspired by previously designed self-guided mini walking or bicycling tours available at 40WestArtLine.org.

Grit and Glitter Tour: Starting at the 40 West Arts District Hub, this tour follows the ArtLine north on Pierce Street to Aviation Park and then loops around on Reed Street to connect back to Lamar Station Plaza. Situated in one of the busiest areas of the ArtLine, this tour is designed to educate listeners on the legacy of West Colfax as a street, a neighborhood and a vibe. Along the way are plenty of murals, a few sculptures and a lot of personality.

Art and Leisure Tour: Starting at the Lamar Light Rail Station, this leisurely stroll follows the W Line east, passing by one of Lakewood’s oldest businesses, the Lakewood Brick Co., and the Mountair Park Community Farm. Art pieces along the way include vinyl wraps, sculptures, murals and fence art, many of which relate to the agricultural history of the area. Hint: follow this tour on a Thursday afternoon and swing by the farm stand and market in the park to pick up fresh produce grown at the farm or artisan items made in the neighborhood.

Transportation and Art Tour: Explore one of the central connecting streets in the 40 West Arts District, Lamar Street, by taking it from the Lamar Light Rail Station to Lamar Station Plaza. Listen to the history of the light rail station, discover some surprising artistic endeavors created by local firefighters and learn more about wild medicinal plants from a sprawling mural that covers 14 walls on 11 buildings.

40 West ArtLine
The 40 West ArtLine is a 4-mile outdoor public arts adventure in the heart of the state-certified 40 West Arts Creative District near historic West Colfax Avenue and the W light rail line in northeast Lakewood. This free outdoor gallery experience follows sidewalks, bike and park paths and local streets and can be visited in sections or in its entirety. Supported by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the ArtLine launched in 2018 and is working to become the longest continuous arts experience in Colorado.
