Transfer Your Service

To transfer service on a City of Lakewood water, sewer, or stormwater utility account, the title company should fill out and email the below form, 48 hours prior to the closing date. A final bill will be ordered for the property which will reflect the amount to collect and prorate between the buyer and seller at the time of closing.

**Please note we do not provide statuses.**

The City of Lakewood water, sewer, and stormwater utilities are subject to lien against the properties, if utilities remain unpaid. Liens are filed once a year with the Jefferson County Assessor's Office and are attached to the property taxes as a special assessment. Balances are tied to the properties. If a transfer of title is completed, utilities are typically collected after receiving final bills by the title companies, who then collect at the time of closing.

Notice to Lien

The City of Lakewood Water/Sewer/Stormwater Utility Billing has a process to ensure fee collection from all property owners including, if necessary, placing a lien on the property. Liens are filed once a year with the Jefferson County Assessor's Office and are attached to the property taxes as a special assessment.

The lien process is started in late September with past due accounts receiving a “notice to lien” letter. In order to avoid a property lien, payments must be made by the October date stated in the letter. Final liens are filed with Jefferson County on November 1, and a $50 lien charge is added to the accounts past due amount.

Once a utility lien has been filed with Jefferson County, collection of the lien is handled by the Jefferson County Treasurer’s Office:

Golden, CO 80419

The City of Lakewood Water/Sewer/Stormwater Utility Billing prepares a blanket release for liens in July of the following year. An early release of lien can be issued by sending a copy of the certified tax certificate from Jefferson County showing the lien has been paid, along with a check for $25 made payable to the City of Lakewood:
