You may have noticed a new style of left turn signal in Lakewood at 14th and Wadsworth. This type of signal is for left turning drivers and is located over the left turn lane. As funds become available in coming years, this type of signal will replace all traditional circular green left turn signals.

The Lakewood Police Department is encouraging neighborhoods, churches or businesses to plan a National Night Out event such as a block party, cookout or ice cream social. The HAWK Signal is used to stop traffic and allow pedestrians to cross safely. The signal only stops traffic as needed and allows traffic to flow when pedestrians are not present. The City is installing the signal at 260 Union which will make it easier for pedestrians to cross over Union Blvd. to access businesses and the Federal Center light rail station. This video was created to help drivers and pedestrians understand what action they need to take during the phases of the signal.

The City of Lakewood Youth Police Academy lets motivated teens ages 16-18 go behind the scenes and see what police officers do. The academy is designed to be a hands-on, active experience for motivated youth who will have the unique opportunity to interact with and learn from police agents in a safe environment.
