Recreation and Inclusion Services for Everyone (RISE) is the therapeutic recreation program for the City of Lakewood’s Recreation Division. We provide special and inclusive recreation opportunities to individuals with disabilities, age 6 through senior adult.
RISE believes that everyone, regardless of ability, deserves choices for health, leisure, recreation and wellness to enhance quality of life. The goal of RISE is to ensure that all individuals have equal access to activities that interest them and to offer opportunities to interact with peers and the community.
Our year-round programs include recreation and leisure opportunities for youth and adults of all ability levels, including after school sports programs for children and teens, social dances for adults, a bowling league, field trips to museums, athletic and cultural events, Special Olympics athletic training, and classes and overnight trips to various locations around Colorado.
Inclusion and Sign Language Interpreter Services
RISE staff provide inclusion assistance and reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities in all Lakewood Recreation programs. This includes providing direct support for disabled participants and working with program leaders to increase accessibility.
Summer Day Programs
Camp Paha and
Paha Adults in Transition (PAT)
Our summer day programs are for youth and young adults with disabilities. Camp Paha is for youth ages 6 to 17, and PAT is for young adults ages 18 to 25. Both programs are operated for six weeks during the summer.
Both programs offer a 1 staff to 4 participant supervision ratio. Camp Paha activities include arts, crafts, games, water play and weekly field trips. PAT focuses on skill-building and independence in a fun and approachable way.
Our summer day programs are supported by the Friends of Paha, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the individuals we serve. Friends of Paha is not a City of Lakewood entity. Without this support, tuition and fees for our summer day programs would more than double, making these programs too expensive for some families and care providers. Please consider supporting Friends of Paha in their noble mission.
Volunteer! The RISE year-round and Camp Paha and Paha Adults in Transition summer day programs offer a variety of ways to volunteer in your community.
