The City of Lakewood now offers a tool online for
residents to use to better understand how taxpayer funds are spent by
the City. Lakewood Ledger (http://ledger.lakewood.org) allows viewers to search the City's spending
accounts by expense type, by vendor name and by department. It includes payments made through procurement cards that function like credit
cards, through vouchers and other payment methods.
The easy-to-use tool works intuitively and displays information
in an understandable format. The City also provides a way for users to
submit comments and thoughts on the effectiveness of this new tool and
to provide suggestions for future enhancements.
This new section of Lakewood's website addresses the City's continuing
effort to be transparent in its actions. Open and honest communication
is one of the City Council's
Core Community Values that guide each decision made by the City.
At the direction of Mayor Bob Murphy, this new tool was created in a
cost-effective manner while conforming to privacy requirements under
federal and state law.
