REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION:  2009-50

SUBJECT:  Intergovernmental Agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation for reconstruction of the Alameda Bike Path from Kipling Street to Allison Parkway.

FUNDING SOURCE:  Federal Funds and Capital Improvement Funds (CIF)

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The City of Lakewood has been awarded $375,000 in federal funds that require Lakewood matching funds of $250,000 to reconstruct the bike path along the south side of Alameda Avenue from Kipling Street to Allison Parkway.  The work will consist of replacing the deteriorated asphalt bike path with a ten-foot wide concrete path.

The Colorado Department of Transportation and the City of Lakewood would like to enter into an intergovernmental agreement to fund the design and construction work associated with the reconstruction of the bike path.  The total estimated cost for the project is $625,000.  The City share is $250,000 and will be funded from the CIF.

Design work will begin immediately and will be completed early in 2010.  Construction is anticipated to start and be completed in 2010.
