REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
RESOLUTION: 2009-39
SUBJECT: City of Lakewood partnership with Lakewood non-profit iCast
RECOMMENDATION: Approval
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
To recommend that Lakewood act as a pass-through governmental organization for iCAST, the (International Center for Appropriate & Sustainable Technology) for the purposes of applying for federal and other grants geared toward the development of, and support of, clean technology business generation in the community. iCAST is a non-profit Lakewood organization that has a proven record of launching such businesses and with the benefit of partnering with the City of Lakewood will be able to attract more dollars to its mission. This, in turn, will provide economic, environmental, and social benefits to the Lakewood community. Grants will be focused on funding sustainable economic development activities such as; business incubation, workforce training for “green” jobs, job creation, energy audits, and Energy Conservation Measurements (ECM’s).
The partnership does not encumber Lakewood taxpayers, does not impact Lakewood’s TABOR limits, and does not preclude the City from similar pass-through partnerships with other non-profit entities.
