A RESOLUTION

AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD TO ENTER INTO AN  AGREEMENT WITH THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE DESIGN AND RE-CONSTRUCTION OF FOUR TRAFFIC SIGNALS AT THE FOLLOWING INTERSECTIONS: ALAMEDA AVENUE/DEPEW STREET, EXPOSITION AVENUE/KIPLING PARKWAY,  MISSISSIPPI AVENUE/KIPLING PARKWAY, AND ALAMEDA AVENUE/HARLAN STREET, AND FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF AN EASTBOUND LEFT-TURN LANE AT HAMPDEN AVENUE (US285)/KIPLING STREET, AND FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF MEDIANS ON WADSWORTH BOULEVARD AT 9TH AND 13TH AVENUES.

WHEREAS, the seven locations listed above are high-accident locations and need to be improved; and,

WHEREAS, federal safety funds of $1,480,900 are available to design and construct the improvements with the City’s contribution estimated at $49,000; and,

WHEREAS, administration of the project will be coordinated through the Colorado Department of Transportation and requires the City enter into an intergovernmental agreement for design and construction of the traffic signals widening  and medians.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1.  The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Clerk to attest, an agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in form approved by the City Attorney, for design and construction of the project.  The City of Lakewood’s contribution shall not exceed Forty-nine Thousand and No/100 Dollars ($49,000).

SECTION 2.   The City Treasurer is hereby authorized to make payment to the Colorado Department of Transportation in accordance with said contract.

INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by a vote of 10 for and 0 against at a regular meeting of the City council on May 11, 2009, at 7 o’clock p.m. at Lakewood Civic Center South, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado.
