REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
ORDINANCE: O-2009-34
SUBJECT: Ordinance declaring the City's intent to acquire interests in real property for the West 14th Avenue, Depew Street to Sheridan Boulevard Sidewalk Improvement Project
ADDRESSES: South side of West 14th Avenue, between Depew Street and Sheridan Boulevard.
RECOMMENDATION: Approval.
FUNDING SOURCE: Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA).
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: City of Lakewood will be receiving funds from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) to construct sidewalk along the south side of West 14th Avenue, between Depew Street and Sheridan Boulevard. These improvements will enhance safety for pedestrians by completing a missing section of sidewalk along West 14th Avenue. Because there is not enough right-of-way to construct the sidewalk improvements, the City needs to acquire easements from the adjacent property owners for the sidewalk improvements.
It is anticipated that this work will be bid late this year with construction starting early in 2010 as weather permits.
