REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
ORDINANCE: O-2009-33
SUBJECT: Ordinance declaring the City's intent to acquire interests in real property for the sidewalk improvements along sections of Wadsworth and Sheridan Boulevards.
ADDRESSES: East side of Wadsworth Boulevard, from 22nd Avenue north to approximately 23rd Place and along the west side of Sheridan Boulevard from Ellsworth Avenue north to 4th Avenue.
RECOMMENDATION: Approval.
FUNDING SOURCE: Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: City of Lakewood will be using CDBG funds to construct segments of sidewalk along the east side of Wadsworth Boulevard from 22nd Avenue north to 23rd Place and along the west side of Sheridan Boulevard from Ellsworth Avenue north to 4th Avenue. These improvements will enhance safety for pedestrians by completing missing sections of sidewalk along Wadsworth and Sheridan Boulevards. Because there is not enough right-of-way to construct the sidewalk improvements, the City needs to acquire easements from the adjacent property owners for the sidewalk improvements.
It is anticipated that this work will be bid late this year with construction starting early in 2010 as weather permits.
