Recognizing Laura Johnson
Lakewood/Chester Sister Cities Music Exchange Scholar
Representing Lakewood, Colorado

WHEREAS,   Laura Johnson has demonstrated her musical talents through the mastery and study of the violin; and

WHEREAS,   Laura began playing violin when she was 2.  For the last five years, she has studied with James Maurer, a retired professor of violin from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.  She recently performed an individual concerto with the Lakewood Symphony Orchestra; and

WHEREAS,   Laura is the fourth-born in a family of eight children, and has been encouraged by her father to share her music with others.  In 1999, she joined her three older siblings in forming a family string quartet, which has performed throughout the Denver metro area in such venues as the Brown Palace Hotel, Coors Field, the Broadmoor Hotel, the state Capitol and at the KVOD Performance Studio; and

WHEREAS,   we are pleased to welcome Laura Johnson into the ongoing Sister Cities Music Scholar Exchange Program.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Lakewood, I, Bob Murphy, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me do hereby recognize the Lakewood/Chester Sister Cities Music Exchange Scholar

and extend our best wishes to her during her exchange visit to Chester, England and throughout her musical career.
