RESOLUTION: 2008-54
SUBJECT: Appointing Anne Stavig as Municipal Judge and designating Judge Stavig as Presiding Municipal Judge.

RECOMMENDATION: Adopt the Resolution appointing Anne Stavig to an initial one-year
term, up to the next municipal election, as Municipal Judge for the Lakewood
Municipal Court, and designating Judge Stavig as Presiding Municipal Judge to
serve in that capacity at the pleasure of the City Council.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The City Council interviewed the three
candidates to replace retiring Presiding Municipal Judge Thomas Elliott that
were presented by the Judicial Nominating Committee, and selected Anne Stavig
from among those candidates. This Resolution would formally appoint Ms. Stavig
to the position of Municipal Judge, and designate Judge Stavig as Presiding
Municipal Judge. Pursuant to Section 5.5 of the City Charter, the initial term
or office for each judge shall be not less than one year, and thereafter, until
the next regular municipal election. Therefore, the Resolution provides for
an initial term for Judge Stavig from August 4, 2008 through November 3, 2009.
