A RESOLUTION

APPOINTING ANNE STAVIG AS A MUNICIPAL JUDGE FOR THE LAKEWOOD MUNICIPAL COURT AND DESIGNATING JUDGE STAVIG AS THE PRESIDING MUNICIPAL JUDGE

WHEREAS, a vacancy exists on the Lakewood Municipal Court by virtue of the retirement of Presiding Judge Thomas Elliott; and

WHEREAS, the City Council appointed a Judicial Nominating Committee for the purpose of recommending nominees to be considered by the City Council for appointment as a Municipal Judge; and

WHEREAS, the Judicial Nominating Committee reviewed the applications, interviewed candidates, and recommended three nominees to the City Council; and

WHEREAS, the City Council has considered and interviewed those three nominees, and has selected Anne Stavig to serve as Municipal Judge for the Lakewood Municipal Court; and

WHEREAS, Section 5.2 of the City of Lakewood Charter and Section 2.20.050A of the Lakewood Municipal Code authorize the City Council to designate a Presiding Municipal Judge to preside over the Municipal Court in the event that there is more than one municipal judge; and

WHEREAS, the City Council desires to designate Judge Anne Stavig as the Presiding Municipal Judge, to serve in that capacity at the pleasure of the City Council; and

WHEREAS, because Section 5.4 of the City of Lakewood Charter provides that an appointed Municipal Judge shall serve an initial term of not less than one year, after which the name of such judge shall be placed on the ballot at the next regular municipal election, the appointment of Judge Stavig shall be for a term beginning on August 4, 2008 through November 3, 2009.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Lakewood hereby appoints Anne Stavig as Municipal Judge for the Lakewood Municipal Court for an initial term from August 4, 2008 through November 3, 2009.

SECTION 2. The City Council hereby designates Judge Anne Stavig as Presiding Municipal Judge for the Lakewood Municipal Court, to serve in that capacity at the pleasure of the City Council.

INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by a vote of 11 For and 0 Against at a regular meeting of the City Council on July 28, 2008, at 7 o'clock p.m. at Lakewood Civic Center, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado.
