RESOLUTION: 2008-30

SUBJECT: Award of Contract for 2008 Overlay and Patching Program.

RECOMMENDATION: Public Works recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Asphalt Paving Company in the amount of $3,266,435.95 for the 2008 Overlay and Patching Program. It is further recommended that 10 percent of the contract amount, $326,643.60, be authorized by City Council in the event unanticipated work is needed to complete the streets scheduled for overlay in 2008. Total authorization recommended is $3,593,079.55.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

This contract is used to perform work on streets scheduled to be overlayed as part of the 2008 Resurfacing Program. This includes patching of failed street areas and placement of a new asphalt surface layer (asphalt overlay). In most cases, the street is rotomilled prior to placement of the new overlay, to remove excess asphalt and provide an acceptable profile to the street.

As the attached Bid Summary shows, the low bidder on the contract is Asphalt Paving Company with a bid of $3,266,435.95. Public Works recommends the contract be awarded to Asphalt Paving Company, a qualified contractor.
