A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT (RTD) WEST CORRIDOR LIGHT RAIL PROJECT

WHEREAS, The West Corridor, which will traverse the length of Lakewood, will be the next light rail line constructed as part of RTD's FasTracks project; and

WHEREAS, The light rail line construction will impact Lakewood homeowners and business owners in the vicinity of the rail corridor; and

WHEREAS, The Lakewood City Council believes strongly that the light rail construction process must be just and timely for all who can demonstrate a direct impact.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1. The Lakewood City Council requests that RTD acquire only such property as is necessary for direct light rail purposes, including rail lines, stations and parking.

SECTION 2. The City Council encourages RTD to notify impacted property owners as early as possible and to maintain regular communication with said property owners.

SECTION 3. The City Council further encourages RTD to attempt in good faith to reach voluntary acquisition agreements with property owners whenever possible, to use eminent domain only as a last resort, and to provide just compensation to affected property owners in all instances.

INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by a vote of 11 For and 0 Against at a regular meeting of the City Council on February 11, 2008, at 7 o'clock p.m. at Lakewood Civic Center, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado.
