REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2008-24

SUBJECT: Amended and Restated Intergovernmental Agreement with the Regional Transportation District (RTD) for design and construction of bikepath bridges over Kipling Street and Wadsworth Boulevard along the route of the West Corridor Light Rail Transit Project.

RECOMMENDATION: Approval

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

In June 2006 City Council approved an agreement allocating $200,000 for Regional Transportation District (RTD) to design bikepath bridges over Kipling Street and Wadsworth Boulevard in connection with the West Corridor Light Rail Project. The bikepath facilities will be integrated into the light rail bridges. Adoption of this Resolution would authorize staff to enter into an Amended and Restated IGA with RTD to also provide construction funding for the bikepath bridges.

The Kipling Street bikepath bridge design is nearly complete and construction is scheduled to begin this summer. RTD currently estimates a total cost of $759,149. $490,000 in federal funds has been obtained for the Kipling bikepath bridge. The remaining costs are budgeted in the Capital Improvement Fund.

The Wadsworth Boulevard bikepath bridge design is still in progress and RTD currently estimates a total cost of $1,740,851. Construction is planned for 2009 and is contingent on adequate City funds being included in the City's 2009 Capital Improvement Fund budget. $600,000 in federal funds has been obtained for the Wadsworth Boulevard bikepath bridge.
