ORDINANCE: O-2008-27
SUBJECT: Making certain changes to the Lakewood licensing and taxation code to account for the City of Lakewood's first general hospital; Saint Anthony Hospital.
ADDRESS: N/A
RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the ordinance will allow the Lakewood licensing
and taxation code to be in conformance with other cities throughout Colorado
that have general hospitals.
FUNDING SOURCE: N/A
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: In October 2007, the City of Lakewood
completed its annexation of the Denver Federal Center facilities. As a part
of that, Centura Health acquired land upon which it is building its new Saint
Anthony Hospital. The new hospital is expected to create several hundred jobs
and serve the region as a level one trauma facility. This is the first hospital
to be built in the City's history. Because this is Lakewood's first hospital,
the City's founders did not account for general hospital activities within the
City licensing and taxation code. This change in the licensing and taxation
code makes the Lakewood code much as it is in Denver, where Saint Anthony's
Central is located, and like other communities throughout Colorado that have
hospitals. Saint Anthony Hospital is aware of this coming change to the Lakewood
code and intends to license its operations as a General Hospital, under the
new code.
