P R O C L A M A T I O N

RECOGNIZING THE LAKEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE 2008 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION

WHEREAS, the City of Denver agreed to serve as host for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, to be held the week of August 25th, 2008; and

WHEREAS, the Lakewood Police Department agreed to provide personnel and resources to assist the Denver Police Department and Federal Law Enforcement with ensuring a safe and secure environment for those dignitaries, delegates, and invitees attending the Democratic National Convention; and

WHEREAS, the Lakewood Police Department provided over 135 sworn and civilian personnel who assisted with the planning, communications, intelligence gathering, logistics, and venue security during the Democratic National Convention; and

WHEREAS, the men and women of the Lakewood Police Department displayed the highest level of cooperation, commitment, professionalism, and service during their assignment at the Democratic National Convention; and

WHEREAS, the men and women of the Lakewood Police Department maintained the same level of public safety to the citizens of Lakewood while supporting the operations at the Democratic National Convention; and

WHEREAS, by all objective standards, the Democratic National Convention was a highly successful event, exceeding expectations for security, law enforcement cooperation, and communication.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of Lakewood, I, Bob Murphy, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby recognize the men and women of the Lakewood Police Department for the selfless commitment and professionalism demonstrated during the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
